The identity management typeis determined in appliance setup. This option can be modified on a running AeroFS Appliance with minimal disruption to your user base. Please see the appliance setup workflow support document for more details on reconfiguring a running appliance.
This document describes the policy changes if you change the account type for an appliance with existing users.
From AeroFS-managed to externally-managed accounts
If you initially set up your appliance to use local (AeroFS-managed) accounts, and are changing it to use AD or LDAP, your users will experience almost no disruption.
No update is required for registered AeroFS devices - they will continue to sync, update, and share files and folders.
Users will stop using the password they chose when they first signed up for the AeroFS Private Cloud. They should now use their AD or LDAP credentials when signing into the web admin interface, or registering a new device with the AeroFS Private Cloud.
If you have users that have signed up for your AeroFS Private Cloud, but do not have AD or LDAP credentials, they will continue to use the password they chose when they signed up for AeroFS.
If later on you migrate a user to the AD/LDAP domain, the AeroFS Appliance will detect this the next time they sign in - they can start using their AD/LDAP credentials immediately.
From externally-managed to AeroFS-managed
If for some reason you are moving away from AD or LDAP to manage your accounts, your users will require a simple self-service account update.
No update is required for registered AeroFS devices; they will continue to sync, update, and share files and folders. The next time a user tries to sign in to the web admin interface, or to register a new device, they will find that their AD/LDAP password no longer works. From the web interface sign-in page, they can request a password reset email.
Once they click the password-reset link, the user can choose a new password to use with AeroFS. The account will be securely managed onboard the Private Cloud Appliance.
